6 Best Small Vans for Your Business

Small vans are perfect for businesses and tradespeople who need the manoeuvrability of a smaller vehicle whilst also still being practical. They’re generally cheaper to buy than larger vans and are also cheaper and more economic to run.

You’ll find plenty of choices of small vans, with different sizes and specifications available. We’ve rounded up the six best small vans for your business.

1.      Vauxhall Combo

The Vauxhall Combo is spacious, with a load space of up to 4,400 litres and a payload of up to 1,000kg. It has an economical engine, with a fuel economy of up to 57.3mpg. The van has a low floor for ease of access and has different load carrying options, so you can choose what’s most suitable.

It comes in one roof height but two lengths, and there’s an option for crew seats too. There are many options to add safety gear, so you’re protected when you’re working and driving. There are three trims on offer: the basic Edition, the Sportive, and the higher end LE Nav. With these, you can change the look of your van, with alloy wheels and body-colour trims.  There is even a four-wheel drive option, for better grip when driving.

2.     Ford Transit Courier

The Ford Transit Courier is one of the smallest vans available in the UK. It has a load space up to 2,300 litres and a payload up to 595kg. It’s perfect for van use in cities, being more compact and easier to manoeuvre. It boasts a fuel economy up to 56.5mpg. It drives superbly with stability and precision and has been compared to driving a Ford Fiesta.

There’s just one body option for the Ford Transit Courier but four trims; Leader, Trend, Limited and Sport. A side door is standard across the range, but with the trim options you can choose extras, like a locking glove box, painted door handles and parking sensors.

3.     Peugeot Partner

The Peugeot Partner is similar to the Citreon Berlingo and the Vauxhall Combo Cargo, as they’re all built in the same factory to similar specifications. However, the Peugeot Partner has the i-Cockpit, adapted from Peugeot’s passenger vehicles. With the i-Cockpit, the steering wheel is compact for better handling, and the head-up instrument panel is situated in your line of sight so you can keep your eyes on the road. Some people much prefer this set-up to other cabins and others find it more difficult to use, so it’s worth testing before you buy.

The van has a load space up to 3,800 litres and a payload up to 1,000 kg. Its fuel economy is up to 55.6mpg. There are four trims on offer; the Partner S and the Partner Grip, which have been designed with the construction industry in mind, and the Professional and the Asphalt, which have kit closer to a car.

4.     Volkswagen Caddy

The Volkswagen Caddy has a quality designed interior and is one of the best vans for comfort. It has many of the same technical aspects as the popular Volkswagen Golf passenger car, with up-to-date kit added, like keyless ignition and the digital instrument panel. It has two options for wheelbase: standard and Maxi. There’s also a five-seat Kombi crew van on offer if you need to take more passengers.

The Volkswagen Caddy isn’t the most spacious van, with a load space up to 3,700 litres and payload up to 700kg. But it makes up for its lack of space with an efficient engine and a fuel economy up to 57.6mpg. There’s also a variety of safety and driver assistance features to make your drive easier and safer.

5.     Citroen Berlingo

The Citroen Berlingo has a similar load space and payload as the Vauxhall Combo, with up to 4,400 litres load space and 1,009kg payload. It offers a comfortable and easy drive with quality safety technology.

There are two lengths on offer, standard (M) or long (XL), plus a crew option with extra seats. There is an increased width across the rear wheel arches and the larger floor area can fit two Europallets. The Citroen Berlingo has four trim options: the basic X, the higher range Enterprise, the Worker for off-road or building-site driving, and the Driver designed for long distances.

6.     Renault Kangoo Z.E.

The Renault Kangoo Z.E. is an electric vehicle. Whilst an electric van might sound strange, it’s perfect for city driving. It’s estimated to go between 75 and 170 miles on a charge, a load space up to 4,600 litres and a payload up to 640kg.

The Renault Kangoo Z.E. comes in a standard-length option and a longer, Maxi option. The Z.E. has its own trim which matches the standard Business trim of the diesel version, but with extras like wheel upgrades and an interior pre-heat function.
