It may not be anything to look at but the Fiat Tipo Easy is an underdog in the affordable family car rankings. Whilst it may be considered the most basic out of our top 10, it has a huge 440-litre boot and a roomy interior, easily fitting the family in. Okay, we know what you’re thinking, it’s a marmite car. Love it or hate it, the Citroen C4 Cactus is a wonderful family car. An affordable SUV, the C4 Cactus has enough space for a family and the 1.2 petrol engine is super fuel-efficient.
An iconic car, the VW Golf is easy to drive and offers great value for money. Bigger than it’s little sister, the VW Polo, the Golf is one of the best small family cars. The 5-door and estate versions are perfect for a young family and there are some excellent safety features on even the most basic models.
